We’re delighted to congratulate UCLH Charity Trustee Professor Ramani Moonesinghe on her appointment as deputy national medical director, NHS England. ![]()
Professor Ramani Moonesinghe has worked as an anaesthetics and critical care consultant at UCLH for 16 years, and is on the board of UCLH Charity Trustees.
In her new role as deputy national medical director at NHS England, she takes on responsibility for modern service frameworks and clinical leadership, working alongside national medical director Professor Frankie Swords.
She will continue in her role as Professor of Perioperative Medicine at UCL, where she leads a broad portfolio of research developing and evaluating interventions to improve the quality of healthcare and reduce health inequalities.
Ramani is also theme lead for the Critical and Perioperative Care theme of the UCLH Biomedical Research Centre, Director of the NIHR Central London Patient Safety Research Collaboration based at UCLH.
Ramani’s research focuses on developing and evaluating novel technologies and pathways, risk prediction and outcome measurement, and improvement studies focusing on perioperative and critical care.
Ramani was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2021 New Year's Honours List, for services to anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care medicine. At the time, she was the clinical lead for the national critical care response to the COVID-19 pandemic at NHSE.
