The (virtual) London Marathon 2020

Rain didn’t stop our runners getting out there and pounding the streets in the first virtual London Marathon.

UCLH Charity fundraising manager Lou took on the first virtual London Marathon challenge.  Lou said, “I didn’t have a place in the original Marathon but managed to get a place in the virtual three weeks before the event.  The beauty of this event is that you could take 24 hours to complete is so it immediately became more accessible”.

Lou was cheered along by passers by and was joined along the Thames path by virtual marathon runners.  Despite the constant rain, deep puddles and a slip over, our fantastic Lou fast walked and jogged the whole way, in a brilliant time of seven and a half hours (including time for stops, photo opps etc).  Did she enjoy it?  “Yes and no. I enjoyed being part of such a massive event and the fact that I was raising money for such a fabulous charity. The cheers and encouragement were great and I really enjoyed bumping in to one of our other runners along the way. We had five runners in total and each of them is a total inspiration. The knowledge that they were doing it kept me going.

Would I do it again? Oh yes. Without a doubt.”
