The Grafton Way Building garden in bloom

Home News The Grafton Way Building garden in bloom

The garden at the University College Hospital Grafton Way Building was refreshed last week in time for summer, thanks to our Gardens Appeal.

The Appeal is aiming to raise £200,000 to refresh and maintain UCLH’s precious green spaces, for patients and staff to enjoy.

A donation to the Appeal made the Grafton Way Building (GWB) mini-makeover possible. New plants, flowers and shrubs were planted last week, bringing colour and vibrancy to the rooftop garden.

Jon and Ewan (pictured) are inpatients on the haematology ward at GWB and were some of the first people to enjoy the refreshed garden.

Ewan said:

“We watched as they were landscaping last week and what a wonderful difference they made. The garden was OK before, now it’s so improved! It is such a joy to be able to step outside into the fresh air and away from our rooms and the machines. It’s been done so nicely, it’s such a beautiful place to come to!”

Jon added:

"It’s such a wonderful hospital, lots of smiles and happy faces. The garden is such an oasis, I come out to just reflect and to speak to other patients who are going through the same as I am. Last week I came out with cuppa to watch the sunset, it is so peaceful.”

The fundraising team launched the Gardens Appeal in May to restore, refresh and maintain UCLH’s gardens.
