Virtual reality phantom heads

Home Case studies Virtual reality training equipment

We funded state-of-the-art virtual reality ‘phantom heads’ to help train the dentists of tomorrow in the new Eastman Dental Education Centre.  This opened in 2020 as part of the new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals and is an established centre of excellence for dental education and training.

The virtual reality phantom heads replace the mechanical models and takes training to a new level.  Virtual reality guides students through typical dental treatments like fillings, crowns etc.  Scans from patients can be imported, giving a wide range of case scenarios for students to examine and the hepatic feeling the equipment provides gives students an experience as close to real life as it is possible to get.

The equipment will further establish the Eastman Dental Education Centre as a world leader, attracting the very best students.
