Support for research
Medical research is an investment in the future, aiming to develop new treatments and techniques to help patients both at
UCL Hospitals and throughout the world:

  • We have committed £7m over the next two years to support the UCL/UCLH Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre,
one of the UK’s 5 top medical research centres
  • We helped UCL Hospitals and UCL to attract key figures such as Professor Ian Jacobs, now head of the UCL/UCLH
Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre, and his 50-strong research team
  • Over the past 5 years we have funded 79 academic research projects, aimed particularly at young scientists at the start
    of their careers
  • We invested nearly £1m in a Core Genomics service to improve understanding of the links between genetics and cancer
We also provide administrative support, and a tax-efficient umbrella, for consultants to pursue their
own research with donations from companies and individuals – recent successes include the
Xtreme Everest project (read more) and Cardiology at the Limits (read more).
